That's the 'SPIRIT'

Well, what GREAT news.... Spirit Airlines is reducing it's fares by up to 40%. This is awesome because we travel every year down to Florida to take the kids to Disney, and it's so convenient being 35 minutes from the house.

OK, can you feel it coming on??? The catch.... they are going to charge for every piece of luggage you check... $5 per piece up to 2 bags, $100 for a thrid bag per person if you book on the website. $10 for the first 2 bags if you book via the phone. Well, that's not TOO bad, right? I mean, an extra $10 per person is OK if they are reducing their fares 40%... we're still making out ahead.

Oh wait, they are going to charge $1 for drinks - soda, coffee, tea. Damn... well it's still probably OK because they are lowering their fees up to 40%!!!

Great, let's book our vacation for this year - $400 per person as compared to $218 last year (and they have since gone up even higher than the first posting date).... Oh, I see, the 40% reduction in fares actually meant a $180 increase in airfares for our tickets this year. I know I have been out of school for a while, and maybe my math isn't as good any more, but how the hell did that happen?

Well, needless to say, US Air gets our business this year. Admittedly I am not so happy about it... Philly, while still not too far, is not nearly as convenient as AC was. But at least we have an option to choose from several flights, maybe get a snack or two, a drink or two, and not have to pay for our luggage.

Well, more to come on this year's Disney adventure once we get things settled with Cooper, but I am sure I can take up a couple of pages of blog posts with just that planning. It may be a BIG trip this year... maybe some surprises, we'll have to see how it all pans out.
